Minimum Age Requirements
Physical Requirements for Remote & Wilderness Courses
Learners must be at least 16 years of age to participate in the following courses:
Wilderness First Aid
Wilderness First Responder
Psychological First Aid: Self-Care
Psychological First Aid: Caring for Others
Learners must be in good health and physical condition to participate in the following courses:
Remote First Aid
Wilderness First Aid
Wilderness First Responder
All relevant allergies, medical conditions and/or physical limitations must be discussed with the delivering instructor prior to the start of the course.
Code of Conduct
Completion Criteria
To successfully complete a course and receive certification, learners must:
Comprehend and successfully demonstrate all required skills, including critical steps
Complete a knowledge evaluation with a minimum mark of 75%
Attend and participate in 100% of the course
Participants must be prepared for their courses, including completion of pre-course material (if applicable), bringing proper nutrition and hydration, and wearing appropriate attire for the required activities.
Participants must conduct themselves with respect at all times. Violence of any kind will not be tolerated and will result in immediate expulsion from the course without refund.
Participants should not act in any way which disrupts the learning environment or distracts other participants. This includes, but is not limited to, the use of electronic devices, smoking and vaping.
The use of alcohol and/or illicit drugs is strictly prohibited, and impairment detected by an instructor will result in immediate expulsion from the course without refund.
Cancellation & Refund Policy
Assumption of Risks & Release of Liability
In-Person Course Cancellations:
Cancellations made 45 days or greater prior the start of the course are eligible for a full refund less a $100 cancellation fee.
Cancellations made 10 days or greater prior to the start of the course may be eligible for credit towards a future course booked within a 6-month period. Official documentation supporting extenuating circumstances (ie: doctor's notes, certificate of death) is required.
Online Course Cancellations:
There is no refund for cancellations of online courses.
Participants with extenuating circumstances may be eligible postpone their course if the request is made 72 hours or greater to the start date of the course. Official documentation supporting extenuating circumstances (ie: doctor's notes, certificate of death) is required.
Private & Group Bookings:
Cancellations or schedule changes made 3 months prior the start of the course are eligible for a full refund less a $1000 cancellation fee.
Late schedule changes will result in a $500 administrative fee.
Course Cancellations:
In the rare event that Wednesday Expeditions needs to cancel a course, participants will receive a full refund or the option to transfer to another date at no additional cost.
ASSUMPTION OF RISKS
Regarding: Wednesday Expeditions, the Canadian Red Cross, and their respective directors, officers, employees, instructors, agents, representatives, volunteers, independent contractors, subcontractors, sponsors, successors and assigns (hereinafter collectively referred to as the “Releasees”).
I am aware that participating in first aid training involves many risks, dangers and hazards including, but not limited to: slips, trips and falls; operating on uneven terrain, exposure to changing weather conditions, streams, creeks, bodies of water, heights, lifting and rolling other course participants, kneeling, laying down, and getting up from the ground; encounters with domestic and wild animals including dogs and bears; infectious disease contracted through viruses, bacteria, parasites, and fungi which may be transmitted through direct or indirect contact; negligent first aid; failure to act; negligence of other persons; and NEGLIGENCE ON THE PART OF THE RELEASEES . I understand that negligence includes failure on the part of the releasees to take reasonable steps to safeguard or protect me from or warn me of the risks, dangers and hazards referred to above. I freely accept and fully assume all such risks, dangers and hazards and the possibility of personal injury, death, or property damage or loss resulting therefrom.
